STRESS FREE Just For Today
STRESS FREE Just For Today
Some might argue that no one can be totally stress-free. Sure, we’re living in a world filled with stimuli – wanted and unwanted – but there’s no need to slowly allow ourselves to implode.
It is often said that our conscious minds are innate pessimists, the cruellest of critiques, and over-judgmental – especially towards ourselves – therefore learning how to work with this inner critic in order to get to our subconscious mind, is extremely advantageous.
The subconscious mind is a rich source of raw potential and far more beneficial and pleasurable to work with than the conscious mind and this is because it doesn’t just take care of all our bodily functions automatically, but also accepts everything we tell it at face value. It’s totally devoid of judgment, objection, or criticism. But the trick is that we have to first know how to skillfully slip past our conscious mind in order to gain access to that super level, the subconscious mind.
Slipping past the conscious mind (analogous to a watchdog) to reach the subconscious mind (analogous to a fertile garden) is almost impossible, unless we either reason with it, trick it or try to put it to sleep.
That’s why hypnosis works so well. During hypnosis, the conscious mind (watchdog) gets put to sleep (super relaxed and not really “asleep” asleep) and then access to the subconscious mind (garden) is gained, and you will then find that the subconscious mind is open, ready and eager to receive suggestions.
It may be impossible to live a totally stress-free life in this day and age - unless, of course, you’re a monk. But it is not impossible to enjoy a stress-free day (and I’m not referring to vacation where most of us are stress-free – hopefully). I’m talking about enjoying a stress-free day any time you choose. The great thing about having that choice is that you can decide when to have a stress-free day and how many stress-free days you will allow yourself to enjoy. Perhaps once a week, or once a month, but I highly suggest you take one as often as possible. You never know – being regularly stress-free might just become habitual to you, so automatic that you may become one of those extraordinary human beings who can go through life and all its challenges totally stress-free and confident. Anything is possible, especially since humans possess such a powerful tool – the mind – which enables us to achieve extraordinary feats.
So, let’s proceed to the 4 vital consecutive steps needed to enjoy a stress-free day just for today:
Step 1 – Reasoning with your conscious mind by asking 5 very important questions
Ask yourself the following questions:
(and know that your watchdog will be listening, judging and advising or warning you to stay in your comfort zone – yes stress can be a comfort zone; a familiar feeling which may feel safer than the unknown – the latter being a stress-free zone)
1. What am I stressing about? In other words, what worries are causing me stress?
2. If I were to put my worries aside just for today, what terrible catastrophe would happen?
3. If there is genuinely something to be stressed about, can I do anything about it? If yes – then do not proceed with this but rather go and take care of it. But if the answer is no – then allow yourself to put aside your worries, just for today.
4. Does the object of my worry benefit from my stress? In other words, does my stress actually help the problem? If yes – then stress away. If no – then allow yourself to put it aside, just for today.
5. What possible harm or catastrophe might befall me or even the world if I allow myself to enjoy a stress-free day, just for today?
It often happens that even after these questions, your conscious mind (watchdog) is still not convinced that setting aside your worries for today is a good idea and is barking all kinds of excuses why being stress-free is just not for you, that is why proceeding to the next step is vital.
Step 2 – Hang your worries on a tree
I regularly suggest to my clients that writing down each worry on a separate piece of paper and then hanging it on a tree helps to dissociate oneself from the worry. You can even write down their worries on a whiteboard instead of using paper. Either way, writing down worries can be extremely beneficial.
If, after your stress-free day, you have the need to retrieve your worry and carry it around with you again for some or other seemingly valid reason given by your watchdog, then, by all means, remove it from the tree or erase it from the whiteboard and proceed to carry it again. However, many of my clients have found that after writing down their worries they prefer leaving them either on their tree or board. It’s a really good way to train yourself not to carry your worries with you.
But to satisfy your watchdog, make a note to myself: - if you write your worries down, you can always retrieve them later, and hopefully, you will forget about them (just don’t tell the watchdog that!) Either way, your conscious mind shouldn’t be too critical of this step, as you’re not ordering yourself to stop worrying, you’re just setting it aside temporarily. Ordering yourself to stop worrying is futile. It’s like saying “Do not picture a pink elephant”. Because as soon as you think or say something, you will immediately picture it. This is because how the subconscious mind works is that it takes the object of thought or word (not the do’s and don’ts) and then produces a picture. (Don’t think about a pink elephant!) Good luck!
So, go ahead, jot down your worries and see if you don’t feel lighter.
Moving on to step 3 is just as crucial as the preceding steps.
Step 3 - Tricking your conscious mind into compliance (give the dog a bone)
Sit or lie down and close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths. Inhale to the count of 7, pause for 4 seconds, and as you exhale, count to 11 if you can – as long as your out-breath is longer than your in-breath. This exercise helps relax the conscious mind.
Now think of something wonderful, an accomplishment, or perhaps be bold and dare to picture a future of your choice, a future where all your dreams and wishes have come true. Now relish in that feeling for a while. Try to bring in as many senses as possible to enhance the feeling, such as what you were wearing, what you were hearing, smelling, tasting, etc., and who was you. This is in order to raise your vibrations which tricks your conscious mind into compliance, for when vibrations are raised, negativity disbands from the conscious mind and the subconscious mind releases endorphins (happy hormones) into the body, (the watchdog is given a bone).
Step 4 is a crucial step that is especially beneficial when listened to regularly.
Step 4 – Listen to the Hypnosis Audio Stress-Free Just for Today
Hypnosis is a powerful tool that helps to put your conscious mind (watchdog) to sleep. This incorrectly coined term ‘sleep’ when under hypnosis is not really 'sleep' but rather a heightened state of awareness. It’s like when you’re watching a really good movie and everything else temporarily fades away. This is done in order to gain entry into the subconscious mind and plant positive suggestions into its fertile garden. Suggestions, over time, become habitual in nature. The subconscious mind is, after all, the place where habits are made. In hypnosis, we take care to only give positive and up-building suggestions.
Hypnosis is perfectly safe and highly beneficial, and one can easily come out of the state of hypnosis in any emergency. As mentioned above, the hypnotic state is similar to being engrossed in a really good movie. If there is suddenly a loud noise or smoke or any other occurrence outside of the movie, you will most certainly snap out of the movie; your focus would have been disrupted. That’s how hypnosis works. However, to achieve the maximum benefit from hypnosis, especially when still new to it, one should avoid noise and distractions. Anyone can be hypnotized, but you have to want to be hypnotized and you do need to focus on the hypnosis, ignoring outside stimuli.
